Dartmouth Outdoor Rentals is available for all members of the Dartmouth Community with a Dartmouth ID. Individuals must be present and provide their Dartmouth ID at the time of rental and return.

All rentals are FREE for Dartmouth undergraduate, graduate students, faculty and staff.

All rentals are first come, first served at the rental window in Robinson Hall. Simply come down with your Dartmouth ID and our staff will be happy to help you select the right gear, size it appropriately, and provide guidance on use. 

Renters are encouraged to borrow only for their own use and will be responsible for all items rented on behalf of their friends and family. 

All rentals are due back one week from the rental date. Longer rentals may be possible depending on the nature of the request and availability of gear. To discuss longer rentals, please contact Andrew Deaett, Outdoor Operations Manager Andrew.m.deaett@dartmouth.edu

Returns are strongly encouraged during DOR business hours. It is the renter's responsibility to ensure that items are checked back in with a desk worker. We cannot guarantee that items returned outside of these hours will be received and renters assume liability for full replacement costs.

If you are interested in renting items for more than just your own use, please submit a Dartmouth Outdoor Programs–Program and Group Gear Inquiry Form. Please allow a minimum of two weeks lead time between the time you submit this form and the date of your program or group gear rental.

Examples of group rental programs: 

• 15 snowshoes for a wellness program with your graduate school.

All group rentals will be charged our weekly rental fees. Payment policies apply.

All rentals are due back one week from date of rental; renters assume all liability for damaged, or lost gear.

Notice 1: Individual is emailed within 24 hours after gear was due and advised to return gear at earliest convenience.

Notice 2: Individual is emailed one week after original due date, and notified that if gear is not returned by two weeks from the original return date, they will be charged the full replacement cost of the unreturned gear.

Full replacement costs will be charged to undergraduate and graduate student accounts two weeks after the original return date. Employees may pay any replacement costs by check.

We stock a wide range of outdoor gear and apparel for backcountry camping and hiking in all four seasons. Technical gear such as ice/rock climbing equipment is available for use on official DOC trips but not for general rentals. For cross country ski equipment, please reach out to Oak Hill Outdoor Center and for downhill ski equipment please reach out to the Dartmouth Skiway.
