Prospective Students

So you're thinking about coming to Dartmouth? Interested in the out of doors? This is the place to be. We're consistently ranked as one of the top outdoorsy colleges, top outdoorsy communities, unique provider of wilderness medicine education, and we're the oldest and largest collegiate outing club in the country. The Appalachian Trail runs through campus, we're 20 minutes from great whitewater boating and 40 minutes from some of the premier sport climbing in the northeastern US. You can ski from campus onto 20+km of groomed nordic skiing and it's a quick jaunt up to Mount Moosilauke, Dartmouth's very own 4000 footer and the gateway to the White Mountains.

Be ready to join a healthy, fun-loving community of like-minded students and participate in one of the most compelling leadership activities available to college-aged students anywhere. The DOC is student-led and student-run. You can start making it your own as soon as you arrive on campus!

First-Year Trips

For roughly 90% of incoming students, First-Year Trips, Dartmouth's outdoor-orientation program, is a key part of their introduction to Dartmouth. Organized each year by a team of students, these trips act as a welcoming experience to the Dartmouth community, as well as an incredible experience in the spaces and places near campus.

Started in 1935, the ‘Trips’ program has grown to include activities to appeal to all tastse --  from backpacking and rock climbing to cooking and musuem exploration.

DOC Clubs

The DOC is an umbrella organization that includes different clubs for each set of activities. While the DOC is, itself, a vibrant community, the specialization of these "sub-clubs" provides a more intimate experience. For more information, see the descriptions here.

For a taste of what it looks like to be a part of this amazing organization, try checking out some of the photos posted on our photo site. Be sure to check out our Facebook Page or our instagram to see what folks are saying about the DOC.
