Dedicated in October 2018, the '78 bunkhouse is located on the southwestern side of the MRL campus, near the '65 bunkhouse and the Leach Field. It can sleep up to 12 in the summer on the upper level. The upper level has one large room with two 3-person bunk beds and three 2-person bunk beds. The upper level of '78 is heated by a wood stove; a composting toilet and outdoor shower are located just outside the building. There are also bathrooms and showers accessible in the main building. The upper level of '78 also contains a full kitchen, including a refrigerator, stove, and oven, a few couches by the wood stove, and a table. There is no running water in the '78 bunkhouse.

Rates are per person per night. Rates for researchers include overnight lodging in the '78 bunkhouse, access to a full kitchen, and work space. Meals are not included, and research groups are encouraged to use the kitchen facilities in the bunkhouse. Researchers can also make reservations for Lodge meals for the regular rates.

To receive these rates, guests must be part of a research project approved by the Director of Outdoor Programs or MRL Manager, or part of an academic project through a Dartmouth class for credit. *Must be affiliated with a college or university to receive the Non-Dartmouth Student, Faculty, Staff rate.

The MRL AiR program allows artists of various disciplines time to continue their work in the secluded setting of the White Mountains for a period of 1-3 weeks. The artist will be housed in the '78 Research and Trail Crew Bunkhouse upper level, which is a studio-style shared bunkroom that includes a full kitchen, a living room area, and a work/dining table. This bunkroom will be shared and used by other researchers and academic groups. The artist will also have access to a maker space in the main building.

Meals are included and will be served family-style in the main room, dinner at 6:30 PM and breakfast at 7:30 AM. Lunch is not included. The crew can provide leftovers on any nights when the Lodge is reserved for exclusive use. The AiR should always let the crew know when they are planning to sit for served meals and may sit as long as there is space.

The AiR will be required to plan and execute one program for community engagement per week of their stay. These can be a performance, workshop, discussion, lecture, presentation, nature walk, etc. The Lodge has a projector and screen, a speaker system, a piano, and a couple of guitars which can all be used. Materials will be provided by the Lodge for any workshop-style events (such as a drawing workshop, for example) if approved by the manager.
