About OPO
The Outdoor Programs Office delivers transformative educational experiences outdoors.
Get outside with us!
The Outdoor Programs Office envisions bringing the outside in-into everything Dartmouth does, from academics to wellness to the first year experience. Dartmouth has long sold its sense of place as a reason to attend and thrive here. It is uniquely Dartmouth and should show up in all Dartmouth does. In our work, the OPO strives to uphold values of community, inclusivity, resilience, growth, and stewardship.
The Outdoor Programs Office has administrative responsibilities covering the Dartmouth Outing Club, First Year Trips, wellness programs, and leadership opportunities. The facilities that OPO manages include the Connecticut River waterfront and the Ledyard Canoe Club, Moosilauke Ravine Lodge, recreational and educational uses of the Second College Grant, the Climbing Gym, and the Dartmouth Outdoor rentals program.
The Outdoor Programs Office is a part of the Community and Campus Life Division, supervised by Jennifer Rosales.

In 1970 Dartmouth College created the Department of Outdoor Affairs in order to relieve the Dartmouth Outing Club of many of its administrative burdens, to meet the burgeoning awareness of environmental issues, and to manage the Second College Grant and Moosilauke properties. In 1984 the office was renamed the Outdoor Programs Office as part of an effort to re-emphasize student activities over the management of college properties.
